Courage vs Discipline

Azikazin Magic World

Man creative collectives are so fucking cool. Imagine you and 4 others homies just made stuff you all wanted to make all the time and it just worked, one person is good with 3d one with 2d one with music and a creative director and its ran just off of good intentions and vibes. I am doing some research into Azikazin Magic world and it looks like that’s what they got going on.

To my left at the cafe I am at I have a lady reading her book or game and bouncing ideas off of what seems to be a editor(?) not super sure but he’s poking holes in her story and she kind of works through it and its pretty sweet seeing someone do something like that.

I’ve been playing this music while I have been working on anything creative the past couple days and I think it’d be beneficial to really take a deeper look into the media I am consuming and figure out what is drawing me to it and maybe learn what lessons or inspiration I can pull to my own ideas/creations. So lets take a look:

from what I initially see as someone who isn’t into music creation or DJ culture is a DJ set with specific just these 2 pieces of equipment. I am less into the equipment and more the way its shot and the way it makes me feel. Obviously the music is good and the work is impressive but its really the culmination of top down shot of the Roland with little Legos scattered around and cables with just little pops of color in the black and white scene. I think there are three main things that make it so sick.

  1. The way its shot
  2. The way its staged
  3. The way it sounds

All of these are what makes you feel. As long as all the senses that can be reached through a screen match is that what makes a vibe?

But I watch a couple more vids and I see that they are making music, games and puppets? I am gonna read this article on them then circle back.

Man, when I started this I thought these guys were alot more well known then they really are. I really enjoyed reading that article. It went over all the guys and there roles at the time of writing (2024-08-22). It is the type of collective where they have a 3D person, 2D person, music, etc.

To explain it properly, the members’ roles vary depending on the project. However, to give you a general idea, Lionclad handles beatmaking, 2D animation, worldview, and character design; Lee Sung-moon manages all tasks requiring 3D, including 3D animation; Song Ki-ho is in charge of game development, video directing, and creative directing to set the team’s direction; and Kang Kyung-tae is responsible for 2D animation, illustration, environmental elements of the worldview, and the stories between the characters. Finally, I handle music directing, vocals, 2D animation assistant, VFX, and producing.

-visla.kr article on the group

The section specifically where they talk about the games they play and how they don’t really play with each other and who keeps the vibes up kind of knocked off my rose tinted glasses where I imagined in the first paragraph where its all sunshine and rainbows and they just constantly make, make, make and don’t get mad at each other. It showed there workspace which is in an old building that gets hot and leaks when its the rainy season and there works in progress and it was pretty dope to see.

What I really took from it is there narrative. They have a story revolving there characters that they are trying to portray through different mediums. They have drafts story board looking pages and plans. I imagine they also make some things without all those but I need to incorporate these in my work if I want to make more effectivley. Check them out!
